Inclusif et contemporain, An Other Tarot actualise le tarot classique : les vingt-deux arcanes majeures du jeu traditionnel y sont réinterprétées librement autour de symboliques nouvelles dont la signification fait écho au monde moderne, à travers un format singulier et un style graphique radical.
Au-delà de l’usage divinatoire et mystique qui lui est habituellement associé, le tarot est avant tout un outil d’exploration de soi. Chaque carte représente un archétype qui structure notre inconscient et oriente nos comportements : posons un regard neuf sur ce que signifient ces figures aujourd'hui, la façon dont elles habitent notre monde et dont nous pouvons les incarner.
An Other Tarot est différent, sur le fond comme sur la forme : les symboles traditionnels y sont présentés sous une forme nouvelle, affranchis des stéréotypes de genre et des figures obsolètes du jeu classique. Le livret qui accompagne les cartes tisse des liens entre ces symboles et les enjeux du monde actuel, d’un point de vue individuel et collectif, afin que le tarot devienne une pratique ouverte et utile à tous·tes.
Les cartes sont imprimées en France sur un grand format de 10x15cm, à l’aide d’une technique de marquage à chaud réalisée sur des presses traditionnelles. Les épaisses feuilles de papier, dont les fibres sont teintées en bleu au moment de leur fabrication, sont embossées à l’aide d’un outil métallique spécialement réalisé pour chaque face, et chauffé de manière à fixer dans le papier un film argenté métallique. Ce procédé offre un toucher unique à chacune des 22 cartes du jeu, aux antipodes des matières et techniques d’impression industrielles modernes.
Inclusive and contemporary, An Other Tarot updates the classic tarot deck: the twenty-two major arcana of the traditional version are reinterpreted freely, around new symbolism echoing the modern world, through an unusual format and a radical graphic style.
Beyond the divinatory and mystical use generally associated with it, the tarot is above all a tool of self-exploration. Each card represents an archetype that shapes our unconscious and guides our behavior: let's take a fresh look at what these figures mean today, how they inhabit our world and how we can embody them.
An Other Tarot is different both in terms of form and content: the traditional symbols are represented in a new light, freed from the gender stereotypes and obsolete figures of the classic deck. The booklet that comes with the cards links these symbols to current world issues, from an individual and collective point of view, in order to make tarot an open and useful practice for all.
The cards are printed in France on a large format of 10x15cm, using a hot foil stamping technique on traditional print machines. The thick sheets of paper, whose fibers are dyed blue at the time of their manufacture, are embossed with a metal tool specially made for each side, and heated in order to fix in the paper a metallic silver foil. This process offers a unique texture to each of the 22 cards of the game, at the opposite of modern industrial materials and printing techniques.
